The Joffre Lakes hike/trek is one of the most enjoyable and beautiful in Whistler, Pemberton (BC) area. The Joffre Lakes Provincial Park has 3 glacier lakes located in different elevations (lower, middle, upper). The hike takes 4+ hours all the way around when taking a lot of pictures. The middle and upper sections of the trail are little more difficult than bottom part. Lower Joffre Lake is located only a few minutes walk from a parking lot. The hike to the middle lake takes 50-60 minutes, upper Joffre Lake is an other 40 minutes harder hike from the middle lake. It can be quite hot during July & August while hiking these trails. However, there is a plenty of fresh cool water around.
The middle and upper lakes can be still frozen during the May. The upper lake elevation is approximately 1600 meters/5200 feet. The Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is approximately 30 km drive from Pemberton, BC via Hwy 99.
Visiting Joffre Lakes Provincial Park requires FREE day pass which can be reserved online. It is challenging to get free day pass during main summer season, just keep on trying online at the BC Parks website. There are scheduled closures of the park in the late summer, which are well published online. NO problem finding a FREE parking (2 large parking lots). Currently, there is no cell signal or Wi-Fi available at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park or parking lots.
I strongly recommend visiting Joffre Lakes Provincial Park. It is a special place when the weather is nice.
