Dear friends

Summer is over at Pacific Northwest. It is time to park the boat for the winter months. It has been good summer for me. I have spent around 120 days onboard of Ocean Echo 1. June and July are good at West Coast of British Columbia. August (Fogust) and September tend to get foggy at West Coast. This is why I spent second half of the summer at inner waters of Strait of Georgia.
Tidal current flows (rips) can be pretty nasty while navigating Victoria area and Eastern side of Juan de Fuca (Race Rocks).
I did not go to Hot Springs Cove this time. I have decided to explore more of Barkley Sound. I have always visited just outer islands of Broken Group at Barkley Sound (Wouwer, Benson, Clarke, Dicebox, Turret islands etc.) in the past. Inside of Barkley Sound had some pleasant surprises for me. I have found beautiful spots with white sand beaches and turquoise blue water. South Pacific settings with cold water. Nice anchorages and much less fog in some areas.
Broken Group is well known for Ocean kayaking. I have read somewhere, that Broken Group gets visited by more then 4,000 kayakers annually. Broken Group is really kayakers paradise at West Coast of BC.
I have paddled thousands of kilometers/miles while kayaking in Pacific Ocean. Tropical waters with coral reefs are very nice for kayaking and snorkeling. Northern waters are very beautiful for ruggedness, wild life and sea life.
Hummingbirds have been visiting my boat again, which was a lot of fun as always.
Sad part is, that sea life is slowly disappearing due to human activities and development. I have been visiting West Coast of BC for last 30 years and the difference in wild life and sea life is noticeable.
Most of areas are over fished and influenced by fish farms.
Barkley Sound has a lot of Oyster farms at sheltered bays. Shorelines and bays near Oyster farms are usually full of wild Oysters.
The World is lately pretty screwed up politically, economically and otherwise. I strongly suggest to anyone who reads my blogs to realize, that life is short and fragile, but very beautiful.
Enjoy whatever is left on our planet, because we might not be able to do so in the future.
Mother nature is the best artist. There are plenty of beautiful places on our Earth.

Kind regards.               JJ  (Jara)  Holcman               s/v  Ocean Echo 1
